Writing and Publishing Coaching

The ABC's of Writing and Publishing a Book

My motto is:

Nothing Beats Writers Helping Writers Reach Readers

I know how to successfully reach readers and build quality, very-rewarding, long-term relationships with them. And, I’ll share my secrets to doing just that.

I’ll also share with you every step you need to take to write and publish books that readers are waiting for you to produce for them. And books that they’ll be so glad that they read.

That said, get comfy and open your mind and heart — because it takes both of those in this business to succeed. And let’s begin to build your publishing empire.

The good news is that with my tips it probably won’t take you over ten years to write and publish your book. But that said, if it does, who cares? This is your journey, and however fast or slow you take it is totally up to you.

Remember, YOU define what success is in your writing-for-publication adventure. You don’t have to sell hundreds of thousands of books, and you don’t have to have millions of books being downloaded by readers. Most authors, whether they're tradtionally published or self-published, sell less than 1,000 books. So wherever you’re at in sales numbers is perfectly wonderful and is perfectly in line with wherever you want to be.

In the Golden Age of Publishing, anything is possible. All you have to do is believe in yourself and try the techniques I’m sharing with you. And don’t worry if you don’t already believe in yourself, because I believe in you, and I’ll teach you the tools that you can use to create and build your own confidence.

Now then…here’s the really-really good news. If you follow my tips, tricks and tidbits, you’ll also have a fantastic time getting to where you want to be. And isn’t that what life is about? Enjoying the journey is the journey. It’s not just about the results. It’s about loving every minute of the adventure. And in today’s Golden Age of Publishing, there truly is a lot to love about the process of writing and publishing a book.

How exactly am I going to get you there and make sure you have fun along the way?

I've broken down the Writing-for-Publication Journey into Eight Parts:

Part I: Know Thyself

Why Do You Write? What Kind of a Writer Are You? Who and How Many People Do You Want to Reach?

We’ll begin by answering these questions about who you are as a human being and as a writer. In order to create an experience that works for you, you must know yourself and most importantly, you must love yourself. There are just as many ways to be a writer as there are ways of being a human being. We’ll figure out together what your writing-for-publication journey looks and feels like so that it fits who you are and who you want to be.

Part II: The ABCs of Writing a Book

This section will give you an idea of all of the wonderful writing craft tools that you’ll want to master so your book is an enjoyable read. You want to keep your readers turning pages from Page One all the way to “The End,” and these tools will help you make sure you’re writing that kind of book. I’ll also treat you to a fabulous list of fellow writing teachers, who through their books and classes will help you in the areas you most need help with.

Part III: Just Write!

How to Maintain Your BITCHOK Groove (Butt In The Chair Hands On Keyboard)

The primary reason that books don’t get written isn’t because writers don’t have enough ideas. It’s because they don’t sit down long enough to actually write anything. In order to write a book, you have to WRITE A BOOK. I’ll teach you a few terrific tips and tricks to keep your muses cranking our pages.

Part IV: The ABCs of Publishing A Book

Here’s the section where I’ll teach you how to create your book covers, how to handle the editing and formatting of your manuscript and how to upload your book to Amazon’s KDP and Createspace.

Part V: Price Points, Amazon Promotional Tools and Boxed Set Bliss

So, by now, you might have your book ready to go, but one of the last things you’ll do before you hit the “Publish” Button is decide on the price of your book and decide whether or not to take advantage of Amazon’s promotional tools such as the opportunity to make your book Free for up to five days every three months. I’ll also teach you the sales tool miracle that I call Boxed Set Bliss.

Part Six: Reaching Readers

Readers Rule! All you have to do is find them and help them find you and your books. I’ve got several great ways to do that! We’ll talk branding, websites, social media tips and tricks and more.

Part Seven: Book Sales (Show Me the Money)

Now that your book is published, let’s have some fun tracking your book sales and discovering ways to increase your long tail sales with each new book you write and publish. Also, I’ll explain how and when you’re paid for your sales.

Part Eight: Enjoying the Writing-For-Publication Journey

Congratulations! You’ve written and published your book! So, now what?! How can we make sure that this journey is enjoyable for you…so enjoyable that you might just want to write another book and perhaps another one after that.

I’m so honored to share this journey with you. And, I’m looking forward to helping you make your publishing dreams come true. Before we dive in, though, there are a few additional items I want to mention…

First, writing and publishing a book is not easy. It takes a ton of work, a ton of dedication and a ton of courage. The fact that you’re willing to put in the work, that you’re dedicated enough to see it through and that you have the courage to even attempt it deserves its own reward.

I want you to know before we even get started how much I admire and respect you for choosing this path of creative expression. There will be days when you’re just not sure that you really want to do this anymore. And that’s not just okay, it’s perfectly normal. I’ll share with you the techniques I use to keep myself writing each new page and the one after that and the next one…all the way to “The End.”

Second, there’s no need for you to worry about any of the technical aspects of publishing a book. For example, you might be concerned, as I was at first, that you’re not technologically-gifted enough to format your book or that you’re not artistic enough, with the graphic design skills to back it up, to create your own book covers. I’m a technological dunce, and I figured out how to do my own formatting, and my sweet DH (Darling Husband) watched a bunch of YouTube videos and figured out how to use PhotoShop to create gorgeous covers. That said, if these parts of the process don’t appeal to you at all, I’ve got a wonderful list of resources I’ll share with you with the names of people who do this work for a living. Either way, you’ll be able to get the job done without breaking the bank and without having a mental breakdown.

Finally, one of the most important things you can do for yourself along the way is to surround yourself with a wonderfully supportive and loving-kind group of fellow writers. And that is not easy to do either. Unfortunately, there are many stressed-out writers, stuck in the vicious traditional publishing whirlwinds that are all too ready to pounce on you and bring a bunch of negative energy into your journey. Send them love and then run far, far away. And then, c’mon over to my amazing Facebook Page for all of my ABCs of Writing and Publishing students. You’ll love it there. It’s a safe and kind place to hang out, to laugh and to learn.

I continue to find so much joy in the writing and publishing world, and I’m honored to pay it forward by helping you find the joy in your journey. That’s really my ultimate goal in returning to teaching on-writing and publishing classes and the reason I took the time to write the textbook to supplement the classes.

I can help each of you enjoy this journey and prevent you from losing sleep over it and/or suffering from the fear of what you don’t know. I’m right here to help you each step of the way, and I’m honored to do so.

Are you ready?

Let’s have some fun writing and publishing the book of your heart.
